PROPER ANGLE IN VASTU ?

Excellent question 👏 — taking a proper angle is one of the most critical steps in Vastu Shastra. Even a small angular mistake (like 2–3 degrees) can disturb the Vastu balance of the whole site or building. Let’s break it down clearly 👇

🧭 1. What Is a “Proper Angle” in Vastu?

In Vastu, each direction must be aligned perfectly with the cardinal axes (North–South and East–West).
A proper angle means your plot, building, or layout should be exactly aligned at 90°, i.e.:

  • North is perfectly North (0°)
  • East is perfectly East (90°)
  • South is perfectly South (180°)
  • West is perfectly West (270°)

A deviation of up to 2°–3° is generally acceptable, but more than that can cause directional imbalance.

🧭 2. Tools to Take the Proper Angle

Using a Compass or Mobile App

  • Use a good-quality magnetic compass or a digital compass app on your smartphone.
  • Stand at the center of the plot or site.
  • Hold your compass flat and align North (0°) exactly.
  • Mark the four cardinal points (N, S, E, W).
  • Then draw perpendicular lines using a theodolite, laser level, or angle protractor for exact 90° angles.

🪄 Tip: Mobile compasses may show slight errors due to metal or EM interference. So, calibrate the compass before use and confirm using Google Earth or a GPS app.

📐 3. Taking Angles on a Site (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Locate True North

  • Open Google Earth → Turn on the compass → Note the direction of True North.
  • You can print your site’s satellite view and align accordingly.

Step 2: Mark the Main Axis

  • On-site, fix a peg or nail for North point.
  • From that point, draw a line toward South using measuring tape.

Step 3: Mark the East–West Line

  • Using a right-angle triangle method (3-4-5 method):
    • Measure 3 meters (or feet) on one line (North–South),
    • Measure 4 meters perpendicular from the base,
    • The diagonal between them should be 5 meters for a perfect 90°.
  • Adjust until your angle is exact.

🧮 4. Quick “3-4-5 Rule” for 90° Accuracy

This is an ancient and simple way used in both civil engineering and Vastu:

Side Length
1st Side 3 units
2nd Side 4 units
Diagonal 5 units

If the diagonal = exactly 5 units, then your corner is at 90° (perfect right angle).

🕉️ 5. Ideal Orientation According to Vastu

  • East-facing plots: Entrance from East or North-East corner.
  • North-facing plots: Entrance from North or North-East.
  • South/West plots: Special care needed — can be adjusted with Vastu remedies.

⚠️ 6. Common Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Using magnetic North instead of True North (difference = 1–5°).
❌ Not checking for slope direction before marking angles.
❌ Taking readings near metal, mobile towers, or vehicles — can distort the compass.
